What we do[edit]

  • AIMS is incubating mathematical sciences to address global challenges. We offer a structured Master’s in mathematical sciences and are focused on scientific training, cutting-edge research and public engagement.

TRAINING[edit]

  • AIMS is providing a structured Master’s program that is enabling a critical mass of African academics, researchers and entrepreneurs on the cutting-edge of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
  • AIMS engages world-class teachers, researchers and tutors to enhance students’ academic experience.
  • We break down the barriers for women in STEM and promote gender equality by influencing policies and changing attitudes to support women and girls in STEM in Africa – 31% of AIMS graduates are women.
  • AIMS is reinventing the university for the 21st century by offering a unique education model that provides 24-hour, live-work environments focused on applied solutions to development and global challenges.

RESEARCH[edit]

  • AIMS is facilitating applied and impactful research conducted in Africa, by Africans, that will benefit and nurture Africa’s continued industrial growth and socio-economic development.

PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT[edit]

  • AIMS is building the capacity of Africa’s teachers through training programs to increase the pipeline of math and science students.
  • AIMS will host Africa’s first global forum for science – the Next Einstein Forum (NEF), in March 2016 in Senegal
  • AIMS is engaging with African governments and communities as a champion for the mathematical sciences as an agent of change in Africa.

Why we do it[edit]

  • Mathematical sciences underlies every modern technology and its application is found in every field.
  • Africa, which will be home to 40 per cent of the world’s youth (18 and under) by 2050, is undergoing unprecedented transformation and growth- investing in mathematical sciences is critical to drive the continent’s development forward
  • STEM education is key to finding solutions for African and global challenges.
